Cape Vincent at a glance
Cape Vincent sits where Lake Ontario flows into the St. Lawrence River. Tibbetts Point Lighthouse marks that spot. It is a quiet place to walk, watch the water and read a bit of local history. If you want a boat day instead, our guide to Thousand Islands boat tours compares departures from the river towns.
Two things are worth knowing early. The lighthouse tower cannot be climbed, because it is an active navigation aid. And the Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island ferry does not run in 2026, so it is not a shortcut to Kingston.

Tibbetts Point Lighthouse
What the site offers and what it does not.
The grounds
The grounds are free and open day and night all year. They are a good stop for a walk and for photos of the lighthouse and the water.
The tower
The tower is an active navigation aid and is not open to visitors. Plan for the outside view only.
Visitor center and museum
The visitor center, museum, atrium and foghorn building open seasonally, depending on volunteers. There is no fixed daily schedule for 2026, so do not count on them being open on a given day.
Group visits
Organized bus tours need a reservation with the Historical Society. Ask about the group fee when you reserve.
Tours and day trips near Cape Vincent
Boat tours, castle visits and river cruises in the Thousand Islands, with live prices and open seats.
Parking and rules at Tibbetts Point
Short stays, no overnight parking.
| Topic | What applies |
|---|---|
| Parking | A limited number of free spaces, only while you visit the lighthouse. No overnight parking. |
| Waste | Take your trash with you. |
| Lodging | The former hostel is closed, and there is no lodging on site. |
| Tower | Not open to visitors. |
| Visitor center | Seasonal, depends on volunteers; no fixed 2026 daily calendar. |
For most visitors, a short stop of an hour or two fits best: walk the grounds, look at the lighthouse and the lake, and move on to the next place. Look for a room in Watertown or along the river rather than at the lighthouse; where to stay covers the options.
The Wolfe Island ferry and getting to Kingston
The ferry from Cape Vincent does not run in 2026.
Horne's Ferry between Cape Vincent and Wolfe Island is out of service for the 2026 season. Past summer timetables no longer apply. The ferry between Kingston and Wolfe Island is a different route and does not replace it.
If you want to reach Kingston, Ontario, plan to drive over the Thousand Islands Bridge instead. The Kingston day trip guide explains the border rules, including the passport you need to carry. Kingston is a day trip of roughly an hour's drive from Watertown, though border waits can add time, so allow a margin.
Combine it with the lakeshore
Cape Vincent works well in a longer Lake Ontario day.
From Cape Vincent you can continue to Sackets Harbor for the battlefield, or follow the river toward Clayton and Alexandria Bay. Check the weather guide before an outdoor day on the point.
